Vice President of Information Technology & Informatics

Our client is an innovative biopharmaceutical company dedicated to discovering, developing and delivering best-in-class medicines to people with difficult-to-treat diseases. We are seeking a Vice President, Information Technology who will report to the President, Research & Development and be responsible for the leadership and direction of the IT Organization including having strategic and operational responsibility for all aspects of IT across the business which will include Information Technology, Application Development, and Informatics.

Cambridge, MA

• Participate in strategic and operational governance processes of the business organization as a member of the executive leadership team 
o Development and implementation of an IT platform strategy capable of supporting a global R&D organization and public biotechnology company moving towards commercialization
o Accountability for company-wide information management architecture/road-map
o Develop and maintain strong relationships with senior functional heads in R&D, Business and G&A
• Lead and prioritize IT initiatives and coordinate the evaluation, deployment and management of current and future IT systems across the organization
• Oversee continued evolution of existing infrastructure; effectively manage cross-functional team on commercial build out
• Develop and maintain an appropriate IT organizational structure that supports the needs of the business
• Accountability for IT departmental budget, goals, objectives and operating procedures
• Ensure IT system operation adheres to applicable laws and regulations particularly regarding 21CFR11 and SOX requirements
• Promote and oversee strategic relationships between internal IT resources and external partners

The VP Information Technology will be a seasoned, collaborative executive, with a proven track record of both performance and the ability to assimilate into an entrepreneurial culture. He/she will be forward looking, operationally involved, and attuned to the urgency, pace, and energy of the organization. Additionally, he/she will be a sharp, quick-minded, and practical executive with proven analytical skills and the ability to shepherd the Company through the complex issues associated with its next major stage of growth.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent
• Master’s degree highly desirable 
• A minimum of 10+ years’ experience with significant and progressive leadership, team management, and development capabilities in both R&D and commercial environments
• Must have a strong track record of establishing and implementing new technology strategies
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain a scalable IT solution capable of supporting both R&D and G&A/Commercial functions within a public biotechnology organization
• Independent leadership and vision, executive presence and excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Track record of setting and achieving high standards of performance for teams.
• Experienced people-manager with a track record of identifying and developing high performers.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize a wide variety of technology needs
• Extensive knowledge of IT, biotech, and pharmaceutical industry infrastructure based services and solutions and trends
• Significant technical knowledge and experience in enterprise-grade applications, systems, and supporting infrastructure
• Previous experience with Oracle EBS in global model preferred
• Experience with leading and maintaining a global IT platform and infrastructure with adherence to local and international laws and compliance regulations, such as SOX, GxP, FDA, HIPAA
• Well versed in infrastructure and operations related security controls and capabilities
• Experience with implementing and running high-touch service organizations against defined service levels across a diverse, global work-force
• Knowledge and experience with application of advanced analytics, data modeling and mining in R&D
• Work closely with functional business partners across the R&D and business organizations to determine areas where data analytics could introduce efficiencies or address a business need
• Experience in biotech/pharmaceutical R&D, drug discovery, development, and commercialization
• Ensure strategic and operational development and implementation of robust analytics to meet identified business need
• Experience with developing longer term strategic plans as well as managing annual budgets in accordance with operating plans
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to make sound strategic decisions
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
